This Vision is not simply a statement to be admired — it is uniquely ours, and it is a call to be lived. As Zion, we carry a name rich with meaning, and with it a responsibility: every time we gather for worship, we are Looking Up, allowing God to fill and send us; every time we serve a neighbor or welcome a stranger, we are Reaching Out, carrying Christ's presence into the world. Strategic Goal 1: Cultivate an Engaged, Unified Community Rooted in "Looking Up, Reaching Out"

o   Zion will foster a culture of shared purpose where every member is engaged, inspired, and actively living out the mission. We will create an environment so welcoming and Spirit-filled that both longtime members and first-time visitors are drawn in, feel at home, and are compelled to participate in the life of the church.

Strategic Goal 2: Nurture Spiritual Growth and Understanding Rooted in “Looking Up”

o   Zion will provide rich, accessible opportunities for members at every stage of faith to grow in their knowledge, understanding, and love of God through Word and Sacrament. We will cultivate a congregation that is biblically grounded, spiritually alive, and hungry to go deeper.

Strategic Goal 3: Make Disciples Across All Ages and Life Stages Rooted in “Reaching Out”

o   Zion will build intentional, life-stage pathways for discipleship — from the youngest child to the oldest member — equipping every person to follow Jesus more deeply and to invite others into that same journey.

Strategic Goal 4: Become a Vital Resource to Our Community Rooted in "Love our neighbor as ourselves"

o   Zion will be known not just as a church building, but as a living presence in our community — a place and a people that our neighbors turn to in times of need, celebration, and searching. We will actively identify and meet the real needs around us, carrying Christ's love into every corner of our community.

Strategic Goal 5: Sustain and Strengthen Zion for the Future Rooted in "A welcoming and growing community in Christ"

o   Zion will be faithful stewards of the people, resources, finances, and facilities entrusted to us, ensuring that our mission and vision remain vibrant and viable for generations to come. We will cultivate a culture of generosity, develop strong and renewable leadership from within our congregation, and make wise decisions today that protect and expand our capacity to serve tomorrow.

Strategic Goal 1: Cultivate a Vibrant, Unified Community

Objective 1.1 — Communicate the Mission Consistently:

• Incorporate mission and vision language intentionally into all communications (weekly worship bulletins, sermons, announcements, meetings, websites, social media, email, brochures)

Objective 1.2 — Create a Culture of Welcome:

• Form a dedicated hospitality team trained to welcome and follow up with visitors

• Hold regular “newcomer” or “Meet Zion” events to introduce visitors to members

Objective 1.3 — Strengthen Member Engagement:

• Create a “connection plan” that matches member interests to ministry needs and opportunities

Objective 1.4 — Celebrate and Tell Our Story:

• Share mission stories consistently through Zion’s newsletter, emails, social media and website

• Incorporate “State of the Mission” moment to annual Congregation Meeting agenda that celebrates successes

Strategic Goal 2: Nurture Spiritual Growth and Understanding

Objective 2.1 — Expand Faith Formation Opportunities

o   Actions:

• Audit current worship activities and identify gaps by age group, interest, or faith stage

• Launch at least one new small group Bible study each year, targeting an underserved segment of the congregation

• Curate and distribute a list of recommended devotional resources, books, and online tools for personal growth

Objective 2.2 — Develop a Culture of Prayer:

o   Actions:

• Offer a teaching series or workshop focused specifically on the practice of prayer

• Encourage daily prayer practice in communications (website, social media, email)

• Encourage prayer as a strategy in decision-making

Objective 2.3 — Connect Word and Sacrament to Daily Life:

• Provide digital resources showing how to extend Saturday’s/Sunday’s message into the week

• Encourage small groups to reflect on and apply the weekly Scripture in their gatherings

Strategic Goal 3: Make Disciples Across All Ages and Life Stages

Objective 3.1 — Build Life-Stage Pathways:

o   Actions:

• Design and implement intentional, seamless, discipleship pathways for each stage of life — children, youth, young adults, adults, and seniors — ensuring no generation is overlooked or underserved.

• Develop a visual “discipleship pathway” that illustrates how Zion develops faith from childhood through senior years

• Shift the congregation's understanding of discipleship from a program to a lifestyle by preaching and teaching about how to become disciples

• Prioritize intimate, face-to-face transformative interactions over mass reach, impersonal programs

Strategic Goal 4: Become a Vital Resource to Our Community

Objective 4.1 — Know Our Community:

• Conduct regular, intentional listening and learning about the needs, hopes, and challenges of the people in our surrounding community so that our outreach is responsive and relevant.

• Build relationships with local organizations, schools, nonprofits, and community leaders to multiply Zion's impact and avoid duplicating what others are already doing well.

• Create clear, accessible pathways for members to serve their neighbors — locally and beyond — connecting their gifts and passions to real community needs.

• Intentionally increase Zion's presence and reputation in the community so that when people are searching, struggling, or celebrating, Zion is a name and a place they know and trust.

Strategic Goal 5: Sustain and Strengthen Zion for the Future

Objective 5.1 — Develop Future Leaders:

o   Actions:

• Create a leadership program to train and mentor high-potential leaders

• Ensure every key ministry has a trained backup or successor so that no single person’s departure creates a crisis

• Direct people on how to use their gifts of time, talent and treasure to get involved and share in our mission (displays, features on website and weekly emails, information sessions)

Objective 5.2 — Ensure Financial Health:

o   Actions:

• Develop an annual stewardship emphasis that goes beyond the budget ask and teaches the theology and joy of generosity

• Provide options for people to give to church in ways they feel comfortable including expanded digital options

• Adopt a policy of balanced budgets for all operations

• Establish a capital campaign to fund large ministry projects identified by the congregation

• Provide transparent quarterly updates to the congregation on how their giving is funding the mission

Objective 5.4 — Care for Facilities and Resources:

o   Actions:

• Develop a long-range facilities plan that ensures Zion's physical spaces remain safe, functional, and mission-aligned

• Establish a capital campaign for large, upcoming property projects

Objective 5.5 — Plan for Pastoral Continuity:

• Develop a succession plan for called Pastors and staff to ensure proper planning time and congregational involvement
